Remi deNamor (Gambit) is a former member of the Exiles trapped in this reality. He is adjusting to life on a not post-apocalyptic world.

Character Biography

In another reality, 30 years prior to the appearance of the New Exiles, Susan Storm and her crew were on their maiden voyage into space. In addition to being bombarded by cosmic radiation, their shuttle was caught in a meteor shower that devastated Earth. The shuttle was destroyed and crashed to the Earth where only Sue survives, rescued by a man who can breathe underwater. The meteor shower had a massive effect on the planet. The western hemisphere took the worst, and tsunamis were created from the bombardment, submerging South America, England, Japan and causing the North American continent to split in half. Central America was left as scattered islands. About two-thirds of the human race died on a single day from the great disaster. By the present, humanity persevered under three mighty factions: the Atlanteans, Queen Ororo, and the tyrannical reign of Black Panther.

When the New Exiles arrive on the planet for another mission, their Rogue is rescued by a blond Atlantean named Gambit. He is the son of King Namor and Queen Susan, who have gone into hiding due to political turmoil. His real name is Remi. Gambit and the other members of the royal family help the Exiles with their mission to save the planet. Intrigued by the adventure the New Exiles seem to have, Gambit volunteers to join them. He stayed with the team up through their mission to to Earth-1137, where the sentient life forms are descended from evolved insects. As the team was coming back from that mission, something went wrong with the transportation. Gambit did not make it back to the Crystal Palace with the rest of the team. He was shunted off to another reality with no way to contact his team.

Remi landed in the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir in Central Park while the Exiles were went off to their next mission. He ended up at the Avengers’ mansion shortly thereafter. He used their information database to read up on the world he dropped into, and from the information provided, he went looking for alternate reality little sister, Valeria Richards, at Xavier’s. After introducing himself and promising to keep in touch, Remi settled into life among the younger Avengers. He particularly enjoyed the strong female presence in the mansion. In particular, his dalliance with Sofia Strange and flirting with Liza Hellstrom made his life more interesting when kids with both ladies from an alternate future showed up at the mansion. He tried to avoid Liza as much as possible after that.

While he stayed with the Avengers, Remi was called up to help when dragons besieged the city. He assisted a team of Avengers evacuating people from Broadway. During the battle Remi was severely weakened by the heat from the dragon's fire breath weapon. He was wounded enough he had to spend a week floating naked in a tank of ocean water.

Later on after he had gotten better, his cousin Mary Storm proposed a team form under the Future Foundation banner. Their success with handling a situation brought on by Mole Man lead Remi to believe the idea was worthwhile.

Weaknesses

Due to his dependence on water to maintain his health and vitality, Remi possesses a variety of unique vulnerabilities.

Water Deficiency: When not exposed to water, many of Remi’s physical attributes gradually decline and can reach a point where he possesses only a small fraction of his powers. Remi's strength, stamina, and durability are affected most and, at their minimum known level, are much closer to the levels possessed by the vast majority of other Atlanteans. Renewed exposure to water will immediately restore his abilities. Complete lack of contact with water will prove fatal in about a week’s time.

Dehydration: Very powerful heat-based attacks are a somewhat concern, as they can cause dehydration and cause his body to dry faster and weaken at at a accelerated rate.

Pollution: If Remi is immersed in or exposed to polluted water, it can have a negative effect both on his physiology and the efficiency of his physical attributes.

Powers & Abilities

3.1 Mutant/Atlantean Physiology
Age of Aquaticus!
Frolicking With Some Dolphins

Amphibious Physiological Adaptation: Remi's body is specially developed for underwater conditions, granting him specialized blood circulation to withstand freezing temperatures and highly developed vision to see clearly even in murky ocean depths. This hybrid physiology means he can survive indefinitely underwater or on land, though he would still need occasional contact with water to survive.

Superhuman Strength: Like all Atlanteans, Remi is superhumanly strong. While Remi is immersed in water, or is not severely dehydrated, he is capable of easily lifting 30 tons. However, the longer Remi is out of contact with water, his strength gradually weakens to the point where he possesses mere fractions of his peak physical strength (although prolonged surface activity could reduce his strength to 33% or lower). Any form of contact with water or consumable liquid will immediately restore him.

Superhuman Speed: Remi can run and move at speeds greater than even the finest human athlete. His speed is greatest, however, while swimming where he can reach 40 mph.

Superhuman Stamina: Remi's advanced musculature produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the musculature of normal human beings, and most other Atlanteans for that matter. Remi's stamina, much like his strength, steadily declines the longer he is out of contact with water and will diminish to the point where he only has slightly greater stamina than the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Agility: Remi's agility, balance, and bodily coordination are enhanced to levels that are beyond the natural physical limits of even the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Reflexes: Remi's reflexes are similarly heightened and are superior to those of the finest human athlete.

Superhuman Durability: The tissues of Remi's body are much harder and more resistant to physical injury than those of normal human beings.

Aquatic Healing: If injured, Remi's body can heal damaged tissue faster and more extensively than an ordinary human or most Atlanteans. Remi's accelerated healing is at its peak while he is immersed in water and diminishes the longer he is out of contact with water or if he is completely dry.

Extended Longevity: Atlanteans age much slower and live much longer than human beings with the average Atlantean lifespan being about 120 years.

Amphibious Breathing: Like all Atlanteans, Remi can breathe indefinitely underwater due to having gills located behind his ears. Unlike most Atlanteans, however, Remi can also breathe on land indefinitely as well without the aid of breathing devices whereas most Atlanteans can only survive being out of the water for a matter of minutes.

Aquatic Telepathy: Remi possesses a telepathic rapport with all forms of marine life. He is able to mentally communicate with most forms of marine life and can mentally persuade them to do assist him.

3.2 Endowments & Skills
Flight: He does not have little wings on his ankles, but that does not seem to effect his flight abilities.

Force Fields: Remi can also mentally generate a psionic field of invisible force apparently drawn from hyperspace, which he manipulates for a variety of effects. Most commonly, Remi generates near-indestructible invisible force fields around himself or other targets. He can vary the texture and tensile strength of his field to some extent, rendering it highly rigid or as soft and yielding as foam; softer variations on the field enable him to cushion impacts more gently, and are less likely to result in a psionic backlash against Remi himself (in rare cases, sufficiently powerful attacks on his psionic fields can cause him mental or physical pain).

He is well versed in Atlantean combat methods and street fighting due to his adventuring.

Remi is fluent in English, Mandarin, Mauritian Creole, Atlantean, and Lemurian languages.
